Yesterday, the Legal Innovation Zone (LIZ) at Ryerson University and Ontario’s Ministry of the Attorney General hosted The Final Pitch of the Ontario Access to Justice Challenge and announced ParDONE as the winning company. Attorney General Yasir Naqvi participated in the event and presented the winning team with $25,000 in seed money to help support and grow their startup.
“Improving access to justice is a key priority for our government and we believe fostering innovative new products and technologies will help make accessing and understanding Ontario’s justice system faster and easier.” said Attorney General Yasir Naqvi. “After meeting with these five teams and seeing them compete I know our partnership with the Legal Innovation Zone through the Ontario Access to Justice Challenge has helped move the needle in the right direction.”
Legally Inc. won second place and $15,000 in seed money while Law Scout took home third place and $10,000. Included in the three prizes is the opportunity to work out of the Legal Innovation Zone for an additional four months to help continue the growth of the startups. The five finalists spent the last four months working from the LIZ, gaining access to pitch workshops, mentorship opportunities, advisors, and other resources.
“Having 29 teams involved in this Challenge emphasizes the important contribution that entrepreneurs can make in developing innovative solutions to access to justice challenges” said Chris Bentley, Executive Director of the Legal Innovation Zone.
