On Wednesday, July 25, twenty innovative companies will pitch their business and compete for a share of $130,000 in funding at an exciting Velocity Fund Finals. During the $25K event, ten teams will pitch their startups to compete for one of four $25,000 prizes, plus a bonus $10,000 hardware or science prize. This follows the morning’s $5K competition, where 10 additional teams will compete for one of four $5,000 prizes.

The Velocity Fund is held three times a year and awards nearly $400,000 annually in equity-free funding to startups in order to remove some of the barriers to building a business. Each term, Velocity receives numerous applications for the $25K competition from University of Waterloo students and alumni, and finalists are selected following an intensive interview assessing the problem, solution, market, traction, and team fit. Last term we expanded eligibility to include alumni that graduated in the last five years.
