York University’s entrepreneurship unit, LaunchYU, York Entrepreneurship Development Institute (YEDI) and the university’s School of Administrative Studies, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) have partnered to offer a new entrepreneurship program that helps students and youth get access to education, mentorship and funding to launch or grow a startup.

The LaunchYU Entrepreneurial Experience/YEDI Youth program is a 4-month program, that helps students and youth gain experience by building and launching a startup during the summer.

A selected group of 30 students and youth will participate in this Summer program which includes training sessions, workshops and intensive one-on-one mentorship sessions with industry experts.

The program is open to entrepreneurs across the GTA ages 15-29. Each participant will have an opportunity to compete for up to $5,000 in seed funding upon successful program completion. They will also have the opportunity to apply for the $3000 Ontario Summer Company Program. Participating York University LA&PS students will receive a $2,000 stipend and may also be eligible to receive course credits for participating in the program.

At the end of the program, ventures participate at a Graduation Demo Day where they pitch to an audience consisting of investors, corporate executives, successful entrepreneurs and government officials. All program recipients will also receive a formal certification from YEDI and LaunchYU.

More information about the program can be found at www.yedinstitute.org/programs/youth and www.launchyu.ca/experience.
