Food Starter has won a Premier's Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence. The Toronto organization, operated by a not-for-profit board, focuses on helping early-stage food processors commercialize and scale the development of their food products,
The Premier's Award honours the contributions of people and organizations across Ontario who are creating new agri-food products, adding value to existing products, supporting job creation and building economic growth in Ontario.
Since 2007, the program has received more than 1,700 nominations, with $4.25 million distributed to 525 award-winning innovators.
With an emphasis on baked goods, hot and cold fill products and confectionery items for both traditional and ethnic markets, Food Starter provides access to a provincially inspected food production facility that offers shared food production and packaging equipment, business advisory services, and structured training to help companies scale and grow their food processing businesses.
Food Starter provides food entrepreneurs with access to shared production and packaging equipment, as well as training in all facets of starting and growing a food processing business, mentoring from food sector experts and experienced entrepreneurs, hands-on assistance, and more.
