Speaking at TechToronto, Khalil Mangalji, the co-founder and chief technology officer of Toronto-based Fiix, says startups can use Snapchat to their advantage. He says Fiix, a company that connects customers with licensed mechanics and brings car repair services to their doorstep, has been able to hit and highlight some of its milestones using Snapchat.

“You can take crazy cool videos,” said Mangalji. “And with that video, you can be very raw, honest, and truthful and show who you actually are without any filter…that’s exactly what we’ve been doing for the last few months and we’ve got hundreds and hundreds of Snapchat followers from it.”

Mangalji used the term “humantechtarian” to suggest that when a startup shows its team and engages with its followers, it is more likely to grow and succeed. He added that as followers on Snapchat see what a startup is doing, they feel more connected to its brand and team.

“If there’s anything I learned from all of this, it has to be that you have to be a ‘humanitechtarian,’ said Mangalji. “Humanitarian plus technologist, you just have to be way more human with your tech.”
