Alert Labs, a Waterloo Region startup whose home-protection technology detects water leaks and other potential problems, has landed an investment from the venture arm of Intact Financial Corporation, Canada’s largest property insurer.
Less than 24 hours after Finance Minister Bill Morneau had unveiled his second federal budget, Kurtis McBride was already taking and making calls to help position Waterloo Region as a beneficiary of one of its key initiatives — the Smart Cities Challenge.

The event is an opportunity for companies from Communitech’s Rev program – a revenue-focused accelerator for established and growing tech companies – to attract venture capital.
