The City of Toronto's Economic Development & Culture division has released a comprehensive listing of locally made bikes and bike racks. It provides info for individuals and businesses (cargo bikes are included) looking at purchasing a bike and for property owners and retailers needing to add in more parking spaces for cyclists.
Across Canada the demand for bikes is booming. Thanks to a surge in demand for more personal transportation driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, bike shops and sports retailers are often sold out of bikes this summer.
Few realize that Toronto is a hub of the bike industry in Canada with 11 bike makers and 7 manufacturers of bike racks. While BC has the most manufacturers of any province – Vancouver and Toronto are tied as the bike making centres of Canada.
Toronto's Bike Cluster has companies in many part of the supply chain including cycling apparel, bike mechanic training and bike repair facilities.
