As is our annual tradition, the CanCon podcast packed up its gear and set off for Montreal and Startupfest.

This year, what we found was a growing tech ecosystem in need of a hub. OSMO, the foundation behind Notman House, wants to fill that gap, and the Quebec government agrees, earmarking $400,000 annually to help get the job done.

But cash is only one component; building a tech hub for a city as diverse and beguiling as Montreal requires a plan. Patrick Gagné, OSMO CEO-In-Residence, joins the CanCon podcast to explain the organization’s roadmap for building a Communitech in the 514.

Also at Startupfest: Female Funders released its report tracking the state of women in Canadian VC and angel investing, allowing us to finally stop dancing around the anecdotes and dissect some hard numbers. Female Funders Lauren Robinson and Jill Earthy join to parse what’s lacking and what the Canadian tech ecosystem can do next.
