If you dream of owning your own retail business, a new program wants to help make that a reality. Storefront Starter aims to help 15 participants get their businesses off the ground in Scarborough’s Greater Golden Mile this year.

Running from April to December, the program offers participants training and mentorship to validate their ideas and develop their business plans, as well as access to financing opportunities. During the summer months, this program will also provide booths at a weekly marketplace where these participants can promote and sell their products.

Storefront Starter is a pilot program from the Inclusive Local Economic Opportunity Initiative, which is a collaboration between United Way, BMO and Business in the Streets.

To be eligible, you must be interested in starting a retail business in the Greater Golden Mile and have an idea that is well suited to being sold at a marketplace in the summer.
