Velocity has supported the emergence of scalable, hyper-growth companies through our pioneering pitch competition since 2011. In March, we took the next big step to transition our $25K grant prize to a $50K investment. Now, we’re taking it even further: the next Velocity Fund Pitch Competition will be held in Toronto on September 19. If your early-stage startup is the next North, Embark, and Maluuba, this is your next opportunity.
The Velocity Fund Pitch Competition is now a Toronto-Waterloo corridor event and will be held in downtown Toronto on September 19, 2019.
Over the past 24 cycles, the competition formerly known as Velocity Fund Finals, has produced 91 $25K grant winners and four $50K investment winners. Collectively, these companies are now worth over $1 billion. We’ve seen high profile exits, such as BufferBox (acquired by Google) and Maluuba (acquired by Microsoft).
Early-stage startups from both the Greater Toronto Area and Waterloo Region are looking to Velocity as a strong choice to incubate their technologies and grow their businesses.
If you are working on an early-stage startup and are interested in participating in the next Velocity Fund Pitch Competition, apply online today!
Key things you need to know before you apply:
Applications open on Friday, July 12
The Velocity Fund Pitch Competition application is available on July 12, 2019. You have one month to submit your application as the process closes at 11:59 p.m. (ET) on August 12.
There are 3 stages to the competition. You can learn more about the entire process here. Four eventual winners will each receive a $50,000 post-money SAFE (investment) through our micro-VC fund, powered by AngelList.
Note: Eligibility remains the same as our last competition. Click here to read more about the Velocity Fund Pitch Competition criteria.
The Velocity Fund Pitch Competition will be held at Bram & Bluma Appel Salon in Toronto
The next Velocity Fund Pitch Competition will kick off Thursday evening on September 19, 2019 at the contemporary Bram & Bluma Appel Salon, located inside the Toronto Reference Library. Not only is this the first time the event is being held outside of the Waterloo Region, this also marks the first time the event is held in the evening. This will increase the event’s accessibility to working professionals and pre-seed investors in the corridor and the GTA.
We anticipate that the finalists will have ample opportunities to mingle with supporters and investors.
We look forward to reading your application and seeing you at the competition in September!
